A four-month-old baby who was hospitalized in Gaia was taken by her mother on Wednesday afternoon after she was informed that her daughter would be placed with a foster family.
Hospital sources confirmed that the child “is not in danger of life,” as there were already conditions for hospital discharge, although it was not yet formalized.
“We confirm that, this afternoon [December 3], a mother removed her daughter from the Pediatric ward, bypassing security measures, after being informed by the court in the morning that the child would be placed with a foster family later today,” the statement read.
The same source explained that “all hospitalized children wear an electronic bracelet that triggers an alarm if they pass through the service doors or if they are damaged or cut.” In this instance, “the child’s bracelet was removed without cutting or damage and was found in the room’s trash bin, so the alarm was not triggered.”
There was no judicial impediment to contact between the mother and daughter during the child’s hospital stay, “maintaining the mother’s visitation rights and accompanying the child throughout the hospitalization.”
Besides the bracelet, the hospital also has a video surveillance system, which, according to the same hospital source, was operational.
An internal investigation has been launched, and the case was reported to the Public Security Police.
