José Nuno Moniz, the commander of the Ribeira Grande Volunteer Firefighters, reported that the alert was issued at 12:48 p.m. local time (1:48 p.m. in Lisbon) following an accident on the Ribeirinha Regional Road.
Upon arrival at the scene, rescue teams confirmed it was a head-on collision between a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle, detailed the official.
“Despite resuscitation attempts, the motorcycle rider succumbed to injuries and died,” Moniz added.
The incident response included members of the Ribeira Grande Fire Brigade with an ambulance, as well as a team and vehicle from the Immediate Life Support Service (SIV).
