The Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) announced that an orange weather warning will remain in effect until at least 9:00 PM, due to the “persistence of very high maximum temperature values.”
For the same reason, the southern coast of Madeira is under a yellow warning, also until 9:00 PM, as stated by the institute in a communication.
In another announcement, the IPMA indicated that the district of Faro will also be under a yellow warning until at least 9:00 PM.
The institute attributed these alerts to the “persistence of high maximum temperature values, except on the west coast” of the district.
An orange warning from the IPMA is issued when there is a moderate to high meteorological risk, while a yellow warning is given for situations posing risk to specific activities dependent on weather conditions.
The institute forecasts maximum temperatures of 29 degrees Celsius (ºC) for Funchal and 37ºC for Faro today.
