The demand from the organization advocating for the rights of people with disabilities and their families comes after the PSD and CDS-PP proposed on Friday, as part of the State Budget for 2026, to increase the reference compensation for the subsidy for assistance to children with oncological diseases to 100%.
In a statement, the movement welcomed the measure but argued for its extension, stating that families caring for people with disabilities with a high degree of dependency face continuous demands for care, difficulties in balancing professional life and caregiving, and significant income losses, without the current legal framework adequately addressing these realities.
In an appeal to parliament, the Movimento Cidadão Diferente urges that these families “have access to financial support proportional to the responsibilities they undertake daily”.
