“Tmcel – Moçambique Telecom S.A announces there is currently a slowdown in mobile Internet access and a restriction on fixed Internet access,” reads a statement from the operator released today.
Tmcel, which is state-owned by the Mozambican government, attributed the internet slowdown and restrictions to issues with the submarine cable between the Mtunzini station in South Africa and the Maputo station in Mozambique.
The mobile network operator stated that technical teams are working with international partners to “normalize access to the Internet service.”
Tmcel was established in December 2018, following the merger of the defunct Telecomunicações de Moçambique (TDM) and Moçambique Celular (Mcel) to create a single, competitive, and sustainable entity in the market.
