“Mozambique is becoming one of the major natural gas producers in Africa and the world. We are seeking partnerships for gas refining, petrochemicals, and utilizing gas for industrialization. We currently have five projects [in this sector],” Daniel Chapo announced during a meeting with Algerian businesspeople on the last day of his visit to the country, which began on Wednesday.
Chapo stated that his visit to Algeria also aims to discuss “concrete business opportunities,” inviting Algerian entrepreneurs to invest in Mozambique, which he described as a “gateway” to Southern Africa and the Indian Ocean.
“Our goal is to build solid and mutually beneficial business partnerships in line with the African vision of integration within the framework of the continental free trade zone (…). We are open to welcoming Algerian businesspeople, our brothers, who wish to invest and grow with us in Mozambique,” the head of state added.
The Mozambican President highlighted the country’s five natural gas exploration projects, four of which are underway in the northern region, which are considered “one of the largest gas discoveries worldwide.”
“We would like to engage in service provisions for these megaprojects with our Algerian brothers because of the trust we have; they also possess quite advanced knowledge that will allow us to grow together,” the leader noted.
The President of Mozambique informed Algerian entrepreneurs that the country has gas exploration projects in Inhambane, in the south, and in the north region, with participation from companies including Italy’s ENI, France’s TotalEnergies, and the American ExxonMobil.
Beyond the hydrocarbons sector, Daniel Chapo also invited Algerian businesspeople to invest in the energy and pharmaceutical industries, mentioning that Mozambique regards Algeria as the “only exemplary reference” in Africa in the pharmaceutical field.
Daniel Chapo began a four-day working visit to Algeria on Wednesday, aimed at deepening bilateral relations between the two states, according to a statement from the Presidency.
“During his stay, President Daniel Chapo will reaffirm Mozambique’s commitment to continental economic integration and the strengthening of strategic partnerships in the fields of trade and investment,” the Presidency added.
