“The national airline LAM has integrated an Embraer 145 aircraft into its operations, bringing its total fleet to three aircraft to ensure air connections in the next 15 days,” LAM stated in a communication.
For several years, the state-owned LAM, which is currently undergoing restructuring, has faced operational challenges related to a reduced fleet and lack of investment, with several non-fatal incidents attributed by experts to poor maintenance of aircraft.
Without disclosing the number of planes withdrawn and the reasons, LAM noted that “all passengers affected by flight schedule changes are being contacted,” and they have strengthened technical teams to ensure “quality customer service” along with improved communication mechanisms.
On April 13, Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique canceled domestic flights on the route between Maputo in the south and Quelimane in the center of the country due to an aircraft malfunction, a recurrent scenario in recent weeks, marking the second incident in less than two weeks.
Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique began a process on January 31 to attempt to contract the supply of Embraer ERJ190 and Boeing 737-700 aircraft, following a notice published earlier. However, the results of the tender are not yet known.
This involved the submission of expressions of interest for supplying these aircraft models by national or international companies or consortia until February 7.
A source from the airline explained that this procedure did not specify the number of aircraft to be contracted, as the decision depends on the proposals submitted in this tender.
