“In the production of this crop, 2,200 families are involved (…) and (…) about 90 tons is the average that will be achieved this year,” said Secretary of State for the Sea and Fisheries, Momade Juízo, speaking to the press during the Coffee Exhibition 2025 (ExpoCafé), an event organized by the Government in Maputo.
The ExpoCafé 2025 event is held as part of the celebration of 50 years of Mozambique’s Independence, aiming to promote culture and appreciate local producers.
“We need to produce and disseminate knowledge to ensure we are doing the right thing [in coffee production],” added Momade Juízo.
Regarding the strategy and development of this crop, Momade explained that the Government plans to prioritize research, investment, and training of technicians, aiming to reach about 5,000 hectares of production area within a 10-year plan.
During the event, the director of the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), Paolo Enrico Sertoli, announced that Italy has made available about 4 million euros to strengthen the value chain and appreciate production in Mozambique.
“Under the funding of the program [designated MORE VALUE II], training, promotion, and innovation around Mozambican coffee are expected, involving roasters, baristas, cooperatives, and local artisans,” stated Paolo Enrico.
