
The Public Prosecutor’s Office has charged Helton Arruda, a former goalkeeper for FC Porto and União de Leiria, with domestic violence. The alleged crime was committed against a woman with whom he maintained an extramarital relationship for over ten years.
The 47-year-old former athlete will face criminal proceedings from the Department of Investigation and Penal Action (DIAP) in Porto.
The complaint was lodged by a woman with whom Helton Arruda had an extramarital relationship for more than ten years.
In addition to interviewing both the victim and suspect, the Public Prosecutor’s Office has heard several witnesses and conducted searches and seizures.
The former player did not respond to attempts by Público to contact him regarding the case, which could go to trial in September.
Helton Arruda began his career at Club de Regatas Vasco da Gama in 1998. The Portuguese-Brazilian later moved to Portugal, where he joined União de Leiria from 2002 to 2005. Between 2005 and 2016, he played as a goalkeeper for FC Porto before returning to União de Leiria from 2020 to 2021.
