The Public Prosecutor’s Office is investigating the death of an 11-month-old baby who reportedly suffered a cardiac arrest at the entrance of the Idanha-a-Nova health center in the Castelo Branco district.
The TV channel Record reported, citing the mother, that the baby died at the entrance of the emergency unit in Idanha-a-Nova on August 22, after being denied care because the health unit was about to close.
The Diário de Notícias reports today that the Public Prosecutor in Castelo Branco has initiated an investigation into the baby’s death, and the family’s lawyer has stated an intention to review the case to determine the next steps.
Meanwhile, the Local Health Unit (ULS) of Castelo Branco launched an internal inquiry to ascertain what happened, and the Ministry of Health detailed the response from INEM in a statement, noting that the Urgent Patient Guidance Centre (CODU) received a call from the health center requesting support for an 11-month-old in cardiac arrest, but despite efforts, “the baby did not recover from the cardiac arrest.”
