MP opens investigation into the death of a bullfighter gored by a bull at Campo Pequeno

The Attorney General’s Office confirmed the initiation of an inquiry to ascertain the cause of death, with the Public Prosecutor’s Office ordering an autopsy.

Forcado Manuel Trindade, a member of Amadores de São Manços in the district of Évora, collided violently with the boards of Campo Pequeno during a bull-catching act with a bull from the Vinhas ranch on the night of August 22.

The 22-year-old received immediate assistance on site and was subsequently transported to Hospital São José in Lisbon, where he passed away early in the morning on August 23.

In addition to the forcado, a 73-year-old spectator also died from a cardiac episode during the event.

PAN Proposes Suspension of Bullfights at Campo Pequeno

Following the death of the forcado, PAN submitted an open letter to the government requesting the suspension of bullfighting events at Campo Pequeno, Lisbon, and introduced a parliamentary proposal to ban minors from attending bullfights.

In a press release, the party led by Inês Sousa Real announced that it also sent three open letters to the Ministry of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security, Casa Pia de Lisboa—which owns the Campo Pequeno building—and Plateia Colossal, a company promoting bullfighting events.

In these letters, PAN requested a suspension of bullfighting activities until the end of the current season.

Mother of deceased forcado laments criticism.

The mother of Manuel Trindade, the 22-year-old who died after being struck by a bull at Campo Pequeno, revealed that her son will help save seven lives.
