The cybercrime office of the Attorney General’s Office has issued a warning on its website, stating that the messages are not from Continente nor any authorized entity or server. The messages originate from a disguised phone number, legitimately owned by an unaware third party.
This phishing campaign aims to obtain credit card details from unsuspecting victims and begins with the dissemination of fraudulent messages to numerous recipients.
The messages contain information designed to make the recipient believe they are from Continente supermarkets, offering supposed benefits to loyalty cardholders that are about to expire, urging immediate access through a provided link, which always includes the expression “cartaocontinente”.
Such messages should be ignored and deleted without response. If credit card information has been wrongly provided, the card’s issuing bank should be contacted, and the card should be canceled, advises the Public Prosecution Service.
