The MPT, contesting the electoral circles of Madeira and the Azores, has highlighted “some issues in social policies” in Madeira but recognizes distinct realities between the archipelagos that “need to be addressed in entirely different ways,” according to a recent interview with Pedro Soares Pimenta.

In the Azores, sustainable tourism is a significant focus for the party, as emphasized by Pimenta, to avoid “exhausting the region’s resources.” He stated, “We have various maritime protection zones in the Azores, and we want to enhance and strengthen them. The Azores is a nature’s hallmark,” adding that in Madeira, the party aims to “combat certain extravagance and nepotism.”

He further stated, “One of our flags for Madeira is the defense of the populace, focusing on social issues affecting those who face difficulties, those who cannot find housing or a decent job.”

Regarding housing, the MPT believes it is crucial to “seize abandoned constructions, both state and private,” to “enhance and refurbish these buildings.”

The MPT will contest the May 18 legislative elections in the Madeira and Azores electoral circles and supports the PSD/CDS coalition in the remaining 20 circles, signaling that this support might extend to future municipal elections.

“The Partido da Terra is here, offering support to a Democratic Alliance, PSD/CDS,” not just to present its platforms in these elections but also “for the municipal elections, future legislative elections, and beyond,” he stated.

When asked about what sets the MPT apart from the PSD/CDS coalition, Pedro Soares Pimenta highlighted the MPT’s potential to bring “an environmentalist touch for environmental and animal protection in a future government project.”

The MPT aims to align with AD objectives but uniquely positions itself as “the environmentalist arm within this coalition and within a future AD government.”

On Education, the MPT’s program includes ensuring free university access for all families. The party insists that when individuals cannot afford educational costs, the State must intervene. Pimenta elaborated, “People want education but cannot keep up with tuition fees. We need to support these individuals and Portuguese citizens seeking proper education.”

In the 2024 legislative elections, the MPT contested in coalition with the Aliança party, securing 0.07% of the vote, equaling 4,265 votes.
