Today, in the Salão Nobre of Funchal Town Hall, a protocol was signed between the municipality and the Clube de Montanha do Funchal.
On the occasion, Cristina Pedra highlighted “the great investment” that the municipality has made in the Funchal Ecological Park, a “strategic asset”, especially since 2022.
In one of the two lines of investment, he stressed, around 1.740 million euros have already been earmarked for “nature conservation, cleaning and reforestation with native species”, covering a total of 290 hectares, with 95,000 plants, to which 290,000 euros will be added for the Rehabilitation of the Reception and Interpretation Center.
The president of the CMF highlighted “the extreme quality” of this infrastructure, particularly its educational aspect.
With a duration of three years, this protocol aims to establish a strategic partnership between the two entities, with various objectives, including the implementation of a corporate volunteering program.
Through this program, the club’s employees will have the opportunity to take part in volunteer activities in the Funchal Ecological Park (PECOF), actively contributing to nature conservation and the preservation of this municipal space.
The protocol provides for the allocation of a plot of land of approximately 4 hectares to the CMOF, which will be maintained and planted. This initiative will contribute to the enhancement of the PECOF, promoting biodiversity and nature conservation.
For CMOF, this agreement represents a “unique” opportunity to reinforce its commitment to sustainability and social responsibility. It should be noted that the club carries out sporting and leisure activities, in particular the organization of the Madeira Island Ultra Trail, which this year allows athletes to forego the race gifts (t-shirt), reverting this value to the donation of plants to the Funchal Ecological Park.
In return, the Municipality of Funchal will benefit from the guarantee that this area will be maintained and planted by the volunteer work of the CMOF, reinforcing its commitment to the sustainable management of the Ecological Park and the promotion of environmental awareness.
