“All artistic direction and programming will be led by Nuno Gonçalves,” announced Panorama, the new multi-purpose pavilion in the municipality of Alcobaça, an investment of 4.5 million euros, inaugurated last Friday.
“The root of this whole project is to encompass, embrace and make this a home for everyone,” stated the musician at the opening of the space, which aims to host “various types of events, various audiences” and offer “a range of cultural, sporting, and economic and social activities” under one roof.
In a statement, Nuno Gonçalves mentioned that “the programming for the first year will be important not only to organize high-quality events with national and international artists, fostering a small nascent culture for all age groups, but also to introduce itself to an entire cultural, sporting, and economic industry.”
Located in Alcobaça within the district of Leiria, just over an hour from Lisbon, “Panorama could be an option for event producers to start decentralizing shows, corporate and sporting events,” he noted, regarding this as “extremely important from a financial viability perspective of the space.”
In a release to the media, Panorama indicated that the programming will be presented on May 2nd, followed by the show “Canta-me Histórias” by Tim, a solo project of the Xutos & Pontapés’ vocalist.
The new multi-use facility, resulting from the redevelopment of the former Mercoalcobaça, “aims to develop cultural, sporting, and economic and social activities,” positioning itself as “an alternative to the decentralization of major urban centers,” the statement reads.
Designed to host medium and large-scale events, the venue includes the Panorama rooms (with a capacity for 2,600 seated and 5,300 standing attendees), and Lustre, an alternative space for performances and meetings (accommodating 600 seated and 1,300 standing attendees).
The site also features the Panorama Auditorium, with space for 100 people, which the organizers describe as “ideal for press conferences, independent film screenings, presentations, podcasts, public discussions, and short musical performances.”
The facility also includes ‘Lobby’ Panorama and six rehearsal rooms for musical bands, coworking, and visual artists.
