The National Council of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) is set to meet tomorrow, Thursday, at 9 p.m. at the FIL Meeting Centre in Parque das Nações, Lisbon.
A statement sent to newsrooms indicates that the National Council will have “three points of discussion”: It will begin with an “analysis of the political situation” followed by the “presentation, discussion, and voting of the 2024 Management Report and Accounts.”
Lastly, the final topic to be addressed concerns “support for a presidential candidacy.”
It is noteworthy that the AD (PSD/CDS-PP), led by the current prime minister, Luís Montenegro, won the legislative elections on May 18 with over 32% of the votes, without an absolute majority. In coalition, the two parties elected 89 deputies, 87 from the PSD and two from CDS-PP—more than one-third of the 230 seats in Parliament, but still short of an absolute majority.
Without the results of the two overseas constituency votes, the PS ranks second with 23.38% of the votes and 58 deputies, the same as Chega, which has a lower voter percentage at 22.56%.
According to provisional results released by the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Internal Administration, IL follows in fourth place with 5.53% of the votes and nine deputies, and then Livre with 4.2% and six deputies.
