The hearings with Chief Superintendent Luís Miguel Ribeiro Carrilho and Maria Lúcia Amaral received only the opposition of the Chega party, but have not been scheduled yet.
At the time of the police operation on December 19, Maria Lúcia Amaral served as the Ombudsperson, an entity pointing out “failures” in police conduct.
During the presentation of the request, Socialist MP Isabel Moreira highlighted the flaws mentioned by the Ombudsperson in this operation, particularly regarding “the intrusive and prolonged manner” in which the searches were conducted, furthermore “with media accompaniment, which publicized the operation.”
Isabel Moreira argued that the manner in which the December 19 operation was conducted, in the name of combating illegal immigration, crime, and drug trafficking, may have “violated fundamental principles of the rule of law.”
The IGAI has yet to receive complaints about the controversial police behavior, but has decided to open a case “on its own initiative.”

The PSD vice-president, António Rodrigues, disagreed with the analysis previously presented by Socialist Isabel Moreira, but stated that the Social Democrats would approve the two hearings.
António Rodrigues noted that this matter had already been discussed in the Committee on Constitutional Affairs and referenced the General Inspection of Internal Administration’s report that stated, “there was no violation of the norms” inherent in a police operation.
In response to this PSD stance, Chega MP Nuno Gabriel expressed surprise with the Social Democrats and accused them of “hypocrisy,” opposing that “it has already been concluded that the operation” on Rua do Benformoso “had appropriate proportionality.”
Subsequently, CDS MP João Almeida considered the hearings with the national director of the PSP and the Minister of Internal Administration “most useful.”
“It was clear to most people the importance of this police operation, but the PS still seems unaware,” he added.
