National exams? 9th-grade students still don’t know their grades: “Nothing”

The final grade postings for 9th-grade students were expected today, but schools are still waiting for the results of the final exams in Mathematics and Portuguese, unable to respond “to parents and students who keep appearing and calling,” said Manuel Pereira, president of the National Association of School Leaders (ANDE).

“Nothing has arrived, not even any information, and there is much work dependent on these results,” Pereira explained, noting that after receiving the results, teachers must conduct “class council meetings to fill out the grade sheets and be able to post them.”

At the General Serpa Pinto School Group in Cinfães, where about a hundred students took exams, it will take “at least two hours to post the grades,” estimated director Manuel Pereira.

The teacher explained that professors have to calculate to understand what the students’ final grades are, as national exams account for 30% of that grade.

Students at the Miraflores School Group in Algés will not know their grades today, according to information advanced to parents by the school administration accessed by Lusa.

“To date, schools have not received the 9th-grade exam grades, which are the responsibility of the Ministry of Education,” the group explains in information sent to parents around 5:00 p.m.

Schools were not informed of the reason for the delay in receiving the grades, which they expected by Monday, nor have they received “any official additional information about deadlines or the impact on second-phase procedures,” states the school in Algés.

By 5:15 p.m., teachers at the Benfica School Group in Lisbon were also still waiting for the results, as were those at the Anselmo Andrade School Group in Almada, where a source told Lusa they would remain open until 9:00 p.m. today.

According to Manuel Pereira, schools remain open “as long as necessary, but there is a limit within reason.”

The ANDE president acknowledges that if the grades arrive today “they will still be on time,” but notes that “tomorrow the registrations for the 2nd phase begin,” which end immediately on Thursday.

Students have two days to register, and few are expected to retake the exams, according to Manuel Pereira, explaining that a student “automatically fails if they have failed both Mathematics and Portuguese.”

Lusa questioned the Ministry of Education this morning about the reasons for the delay but has yet to receive any response.
