The meeting is set to commence at 10:30 a.m. at a hotel in the Parque do Bom Jesus, Braga, featuring an initial address by the leader of the Liberal Initiative (IL), Rui Rocha, which will be open to the media.
The agenda includes analyzing the electoral results from the Madeira regional elections, where the IL maintained its single deputy but saw a slight decline in vote share, along with reviewing and approving the party’s budget for 2025 and an assessment of the national political situation.
The party’s 50 national councillors will also debate and vote on the lists of parliamentary candidates proposed by the party’s Executive Committee.
Among the top 10 candidates for the legislative elections, from a total of 22, is the current party president Rui Rocha, who, according to the management’s proposal, will be the “number one” candidate in the electoral district of Braga, similar to the elections in 2022 and 2024.
Parliamentary leader and presidential candidate Mariana Leitão is set to head the IL list in the Lisbon electoral district, marking her debut as a “number one” in legislative elections.
Party founder and former leader Carlos Guimarães Pinto will again head the IL list in Porto, as he did in 2022 and 2024. Deputies Joana Cordeiro and Mário Amorim Lopes are expected to lead the lists in Setúbal and Aveiro, respectively.
Following the voting on the legislative candidate lists, the IL’s National Council, the party’s highest body between conventions, will also conduct a “political briefing” on “Portugal and the challenges of the new geopolitical landscape.”
