The PM3 machine is situated within the integrated industrial complex of Pulp, Paper, and Packaging in Setúbal, as detailed in a company statement.

Navigator states that this conversion will enable the production of paper with a range of weights between 30 and 90 grams per square meter, addressing the need for sustainable solutions.

The new operation is expected to commence in the third quarter of 2026, boasting an annual production capacity of 100,000 tons while maintaining operational flexibility for the production of printing and writing papers.

Navigator reports that under the gKRAFT brand, it continues to solidify its role as a global supplier of packaging that replaces fossil-fuel-based plastics with sustainable alternatives, developed from raw materials sourced from responsibly managed and planted forests.

The information released indicates that the PM3 conversion will allow the company a “smooth” transition between producing printing and writing papers and packaging papers.

The new machine is set to become one of Europe’s “largest and most competitive machines” for low-weight packaging paper production, positioning the company as the fourth largest producer in this market, according to the statement.

The PM3 is a Valmet machine, featuring a sheet width of 4.55 meters and capable of operating at a speed of 1,160 meters per minute. It was initially installed in 1990 and has undergone successive modernizations in the years 1997, 2003, 2007, and 2018.
