Navy ship starts today mission under NATO in Lithuania

TheNRP Figueira da Foz will leave today, May 23, from the Lisbon Naval Base, in order to start the NATO ASSURANCE MEASURES – LITHUANIA 2023 mission, which should last until June 27, said the Portuguese Navy on Monday.

“During this mission, which will last until June 27, the ship will have the opportunity to carry out operational training activities and combined exercises with the Armed Forces of Lithuania and other allied countries, as well as maritime security operations, support actions for amphibious operations and support actions for mine warfare operations,” it added.
In this line, the NRP Figueira da Foz will participate in the exercise STORMSTRIKE23, between June 5 and 11, which “allows several combined exercises with the Lithuanian Armed Forces.
This NATO mission “seeks, through comprehensive measures focused on land, sea and air, to help create and maintain a climate of confidence and reassurance in order to demonstrate cohesion and deter threats or aggression.
“By participating in this mission, Portugal reaffirms its commitment to NATO and maintains its commitment to international peacekeeping efforts,” the Navy said, pointing out that this ship reinforces the presence of the organization “in that area of the globe, where currently there is also a Marine Force, which also includes divers.
The NRP Figueira da Foz is commanded by Lieutenant Captain Flávio Pereira Eusébio.
