Nearly 100 municipalities in the North and Center at maximum fire risk

All municipalities in the districts of Bragança and Guarda, and the majority in Vila Real, Viseu, and Castelo Branco, are at maximum fire risk.

Dozens of municipalities in the districts of Viana do Castelo, Braga, Porto, Coimbra, Santarém, and Portalegre are also at maximum risk.

Approximately 70 municipalities in the districts of Viana do Castelo, Braga, Porto, Vila Real, Viseu, Aveiro, Coimbra, Leiria, Santarém, Castelo Branco, Portalegre, and Faro are at very high risk.

The IPMA has categorized around 50 municipalities in the districts of Faro, Beja, Évora, Portalegre, Santarém, Lisbon, Leiria, Aveiro, Porto, and Viana do Castelo as facing elevated risk.

Moderate risk is noted today in dozens of municipalities along the coast, within the districts of Braga, Porto, Aveiro, Coimbra, Leiria, Lisbon, and Setúbal, as well as much of the Alentejo interior, including the municipalities of Beja, Évora, and Portalegre.

The fire risk determined by the IPMA has five levels, ranging from reduced to maximum, with the latter issued when meteorological conditions, such as extreme heat and low humidity, significantly increase the danger of ignition and spread of fires.

Continental Portugal has been on alert since Sunday, due to the high fire risk.

The IPMA forecasts a slight decrease in maximum temperatures today, especially in the North and Centre coastal areas, with a slight increase in the Algarve. The minimum temperature is also expected to decrease.

Minimum temperatures are expected to vary between 16 degrees Celsius (Viana do Castelo, Braga, and Setúbal) and 21º (Portalegre and Castelo Branco), while maximum temperatures will range from 23º (Viana do Castelo) to 39º (Bragança).
