Nina, the firefighter dog and loyal companion to the Viana do Castelo Firefighters, announced her new calendar for the year 2026 on Saturday.
“The 2026 Nina Calendars are now available – mine, of course,” quips the dog, interacting as if she were a person on her Facebook page, which boasts over 25,000 friends.
The initiative began in 2017 – or so indicates Nina’s social network, where all editions of the calendars since then have been published – two years after the dog was adopted by the firefighters.
“Another year, another edition made with care and dedication. As with last year, the quantity is limited, so those who want to secure their copy should not leave it for later,” the canine firefighter cautions.

As in previous years, the money raised will be “directed towards the acquisition of operational equipment for the Viana do Castelo Volunteer Firefighters.”
“The price is 4.50 euros each, the same as last year – inflation hasn’t affected the dog’s funds,” she jokes.
The calendars are also available for sale at Pet7 – Animal Care, in Cãodomínio, and at the headquarters of this fire department on weekdays, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Interested parties can also purchase through Facebook by sending a private message to Nina’s account: “And then I’ll send it (shipping costs are additional),” the dog advises.
“Thank you to everyone who continues to support this cause that is close to my heart since I arrived at this home,” concludes Nina in the post, emphasizing that, once again this year, she counts on her ‘friends’ to support her and the firefighters who took her in ten years ago.
Nina was adopted in 2015 after being found lost in Carreço. Since then, she has been the mascot of the Viana do Castelo Volunteer Firefighters, cherished by the local community.
