Neither money nor items: Auction house clients feel cheated

Suppliers and clients of Oportunity Leilões, a company based in Cascais, claim they have been defrauded by the auctioneer following its closure, leaving them unable to reclaim money and items owed to them. A group of nearly 200 affected individuals has been formed.

Ricardo Nunes, a member of the group with a 15-year association with the company, revealed that after the death of the managing partner in April, Oportunity ceased communication, payments to suppliers, and delivery of purchased items.

This situation has impacted “employees, who clearly lost their jobs irreversibly,” and buyers who “had pre-paid for items but were unable to visit the premises to receive their purchased goods.”

Simultaneously, payments to suppliers stopped, he noted, providing his personal experience as an example.

“Earlier this year, after much insistence on my part for payment regularization, staggered payments were proposed,” he said, noting payments were settled between January and April but subsequently ceased. He explained the issues began between 2022 and 2023.

“It wasn’t a pause; payments were suddenly stopped,” he stated, warning that some individuals suffered significant financial losses as the company dealt with items ranging from “Vista Alegre porcelain to apartments, cars, and other goods.”

Ricardo Nunes revealed that “there is a directive from the warehouse owner” to vacate the premises by September 1. Consequently, warehouse contents in Cascais are being moved outside.

“We are talking about dozens and dozens of pallets currently surrounding the warehouse,” he said.

“People obviously need to mobilize and come together during this time of great uncertainty,” he lamented, emphasizing that “individually, little can be achieved,” hence the decision to advance with the group of affected parties.

Attempts to ascertain the company’s insolvency or dissolution status via Citius and the Ministry of Justice yielded no results. The company’s phone number listed on its website is also inactive.

A Google search indicates the company is “permanently closed,” with numerous complaints filed, particularly with Deco and the Complaint Portal.
