Four Portuguese musicians were attacked on Saturday night by a neo-Nazi group after a performance in Madrid, Spain.
Five individuals, described as having a “skinhead style,” used pepper spray to assault several people leaving the Centro Social El Nido de Hortaleza, which also serves as the headquarters for the Spanish Communist Party. A concert organized by the Club del Disco had taken place there shortly before.
“This Sunday, the Nazis painted our door again and at night assaulted members of the Club Del Disco after the concert at Centro Social El Nido Hortaleza. It seems it bothers these people that we promote culture and community,” wrote the association on social media.

In addition to the four Portuguese musicians, the event organizer was also targeted in the attack. The incident was reported to the Spanish National Police.
Portuguese bands Conan Castro and the Moonshine Piñatas and Los Santeros performed that night as part of an event promoted by Barreiro Rocks.
A member of the first band shared on Facebook how he narrowly avoided the attack and expressed sorrow over the incident. “On Saturday night in Madrid, I was lucky enough to leave 30 minutes earlier and thus avoid being a victim of this cowardly attack,” he wrote.
“These individuals choose to be this way: choose brutality, prejudice, and intimidation. They choose to hate what they do not understand: free spaces, people who laugh, people who create. They attack what bothers them most: smiles, diversity, joy, and everything that reminds them that the world can be better without them. Rock’n’roll ALWAYS. Fascism NEVER, anywhere, be it in Madrid, Lisbon, or around the corner,” lamented Alvaro FS on his Facebook page.
The attack occurred as the victims were waiting for a taxi when five men, aged between 25 and 35, approached the center. They were all shaven-headed and wore jackets with a Burgundy cross on one sleeve.
Upon seeing the group of musicians, the attackers approached and inquired about their identities while pointing pepper spray cans at them.
The event organizer, Raul López Vicente, also shared on social media, stating, “There were no insults, fights, or major confrontations. They attacked and left the same way they came.” He added, “This is a clear consequence of the normalization of the far-right in various sectors. These groups are gaining strength and feel legitimized by society to carry out these attacks. This is the fourth incident in just ten days in my neighborhood, Hortaleza […] This is totally unacceptable.”
This is not the first time such incidents have occurred in this Spanish region.
A similar incident took place last Friday, also in Hortaleza. Around 8:00 p.m., a man attacked three young migrants with pepper spray outside a youth center.
There have also been multiple instances of swastikas being painted on walls and buildings. The door of the venue where the Portuguese performed was vandalized the previous day. Before the concert, the administration repainted the door, but it was soon defaced again with this Nazi symbol.
