The Impresa group announced today that Blitz magazine conducted a vote with the largest jury ever assembled for a poll of its kind.
‘Nevermind’, released in 1991, is the second album by Nirvana, consisting of Kurt Cobain (who passed away in 1994), Krist Novoselic, and Dave Grohl.
The top five in the “40 best international albums of the last four decades” also includes, in descending order, ‘OK Computer’ by Radiohead, ‘Back to Black’ by Amy Winehouse, ‘Dummy’ by Portishead, and ‘Grace’ by Jeff Buckley.
The jury comprised around 100 individuals related to the music industry, along with journalists and other communication professionals.
While the top 5 most voted albums were announced today, the complete list will only be revealed on Tuesday, the day a special edition of Blitz magazine is published.
The special edition of Blitz, spanning 132 pages, features an extensive interview with television host Júlio Isidro, described as “a key figure in the explosion of Portuguese rock in the early 1980s and recently honored with a Globo de Ouro.”
The magazine also republishes an interview with drummer Dave Grohl, initially conducted when Nirvana visited Portugal in 1994. Additionally, it includes reviews of the best Portuguese music albums, completing the list between the 41st and the 80th places from a special edition published last November.
Blitz director Miguel Cadete, quoted in the announcement, highlights that this special edition marks “the culmination of a year of celebrations, which included the election of the best Portuguese music albums, a memorable concert at MEO Arena with Xutos & Pontapés, Capitão Fausto, Maro, and Gisela João, along with several intimate performances at the newsroom, and many interviews and ‘podcasts’ celebrating the music of the last 40 years like no other media outlet could in Portugal.”
Blitz, which started in November 1984 as a weekly music newspaper and transitioned to a monthly magazine in June 2006, has been a digital publication since 2018.
