New Director for the School of Economics at the University of Porto

Óscar Afonso, Full Professor at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Porto (FEP), is the new Director of the FEP.

 

Elected by the Faculty’s Council of Representatives, he will lead the school where he has spent his entire academic career, with which he has been associated for more than three decades, and where he has taught in the three study cycles – Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctorate.

He is the author of books, more than 130 articles in international scientific journals, and numerous working papers. In addition to his academic career, he also works as a consultant, technical team member and coordinator.

Óscar Afonso, who succeeds José Varejão as Dean of the Faculty, has as a main priority in his mandate to strengthen the FEP as one of the great business and management schools in the country.

He will lead a faculty of 181 professors, 58 technical and administrative staff and nearly 3,200 students enrolled in bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral programs.

Óscar Afonso’s inauguration ceremony, before the Rector of the University of Porto, will take place on March 21 at 10:00 a.m. in the Library of the Old Fund of the University of Porto.
