New dust cloud from North Africa hits the country tomorrow. What to do?

The country is expected to experience “a situation of poor air quality on the mainland, with an increase in inhalable particles of natural origin in the air,” the organization reports.

The Directorate-General for Health (DGS) states that “this pollutant (inhalable particles — PM10) affects human health, particularly impacting more sensitive populations such as children and the elderly, whose health care needs to be intensified during these events.”

While this phenomenon persists, the DGS advises the general population to avoid prolonged efforts, limit outdoor physical activity, and exposure to risk factors, including tobacco smoke and contact with irritants.

Vulnerable groups and the general population, where feasible, should “remain indoors, preferably with windows closed,” particularly children, the elderly, and patients with chronic respiratory conditions, such as asthma and cardiovascular issues.

Chronic patients are advised to continue their medical treatments, according to the DGS, emphasizing that if symptoms worsen, they should contact the Health Line 24 (808 24 24 24) or seek health services.

For additional information on air quality and readings from monitoring stations, the public can consult the APA’s website or the QualAr app.
