The Association for the Promotion of Independent Cinema (ACID) has been organizing a parallel program at the Cannes Film Festival for over thirty years, showcasing new short and feature films to programmers, distributors, and the public.
This year, among the films selected for ACID Cannes is ‘Entroncamento,’ the second feature film by Pedro Cabeleira, produced by OPTEC — Sociedade Óptica Técnica.
This fiction “tells the story of Laura, who, fleeing from a turbulent past, takes refuge in Entroncamento to rebuild her life. Torn between an honest job and petty crime schemes, she encounters a disenchanted youth not very different from herself. In the streets of the railway city, loyalties, greed, violence, and bad luck stand out — where everyone just wants a better life,” according to the synopsis.
The cast includes Ana Vilaça, Cleo Diára, Rafael Morais, Tiago Costa, Sérgio Coragem, André Simões, and Henrique Barbosa.
The title of the film refers to the city where it was shot, in the Santarém district, where director Pedro Cabeleira was born in 1992.
‘Entroncamento’ joins a filmography that also includes the short films ‘By Flávio’ (2022) — which competed in Berlin –, ‘Filomena’ (2019), and ‘Estranhamento’ (2013).
Pedro Cabeleira, who studied at the Lisbon Theatre and Film School, premiered his first feature film, ‘Verão Danado’ (2017), at the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland, where it received a special jury mention.
The ACID Cannes commences on May 14, one day after the official start of the Cannes Film Festival.
