When asked about the party’s stance on foreign policy, Ossanda Líber, the lead candidate for Lisbon from the New Right (ND), on the occasion of Europe Day, argued that the European Parliament, “besides being useless, has the serious problem of making standardized decisions for countries that are not uniform.”
Ossanda Líber asserts that the “political Europe” should be abandoned in favor of pursuing the original goal of Europe, which is an “economic Europe, an alliance of economic interests that are beneficial for everyone.”
“What we do not agree with is this attempt to erode the country’s sovereignty; there is an attempt to strip the country of its autonomy and independence in favor of centralized power in Brussels,” she added.
Ossanda Líber advocates for more sovereignty, particularly in the energy sector, stating that “because of an agenda dictated by Europe,” there is no real need to be subjected to European agendas “because we have the conditions to create this sovereignty.”
During a campaign walk that commenced at a supermarket in Telheiras and continued through various commercial establishments along Rua Professor João Barreira in Lisbon, Ossanda Líber revealed she chose Telheiras for this action because “it is a very important neighborhood in Lisbon” and because in the last elections the party had “a decent result” there.
Throughout the campaign activity, which saw the ND president joined by four additional supporters, stickers were placed on traffic lights and pamphlets were distributed to various commercial establishments along Rua Professor João Barreira in Lisbon.
The New Right is contesting 13 out of 22 electoral districts in the elections scheduled for May 18. In the 2024 legislative elections, which were the first in which the party participated, they secured 0.25% of the vote, amounting to 16,442 votes.
