A Mercadona announced this week the opening of another supermarket. The new store of the Spanish supermarket group is located in Amial, Porto, and it will open on November 27.
“The new Mercadona supermarket will open in Amial, on November 27, at 09:00, on Rua Nova do Tronco nº 125. This opening represents an important step in strengthening our presence in Porto, bringing us even closer to our ‘Chefes’ (customers),” reads a statement released by the group and published on its official website.
With this new space, Mercadona explains, “around 65 new stable and quality jobs will be created, with permanent contracts from the first day, thus contributing to the creation of local employment.”
“The store will feature a sales area of about 1,900 m², with wide aisles for a comfortable shopping experience. Customers will find all our usual sections: Charcuterie, Fishery, Pastry and Bakery, Perfumery, Butchery, Fruits and Vegetables, and Ready-to-Eat,” the statement noted.
The brand reveals that, “five years after Mercadona’s arrival in Porto, this will be the fourth store to open in the municipality, reinforcing our commitment to growth and proximity, both locally and nationally.”
Mercadona is set to open three new supermarkets this month: in São Gens (Matosinhos) on October 9, in Frielas (Loures) on October 16, and in Palmela (Setúbal) on October 30.

Before, Mercadona opens in Lisbon
The Mercadona will open a new supermarket in Lisbon on November 13, at 09:00, on Rua Hermínio da Palma Inácio, in the Alta de Lisboa, announced the Spanish group this Tuesday.
“This new opening represents an important step in the expansion of Mercadona, as it is the arrival of the brand in the city of Lisbon, six years after the beginning of the expansion in Portugal,” reads a statement released by the company.
This new supermarket, it explains, “will generate about 90 new stable and quality jobs, with permanent contracts from the first day, thus contributing to the creation of local employment.”
“The new facilities will include a corporate office, which will complement the office already opened in Vila Nova de Gaia since 2020, where the company has its headquarters in Portugal,” the statement also noted.
Regarding the store, it “will have a sales area of about 1,900 m2, with wide aisles that allow for comfortable shopping, divided among the sections of Charcuterie, Fishery, Pastry and Bakery, Perfumery, Butchery, Fruits and Vegetables, and Ready-to-Eat.”
“The opening of this new supermarket reflects the continuity of Mercadona’s expansion plan at the national level, reaching closer to the ‘Chefes’ (customers) who have long been asking for a store in the capital,” the company notes.
The Spanish brand reveals that “the new opening represents an important step in the expansion of Mercadona, as it is the arrival of the brand in the city of Lisbon, six years after the beginning of the expansion in Portugal.”
