The week begins with changes in diesel prices, as outlined by the Automobile Club of Portugal (ACP). The cost of diesel is expected to drop by 1.5 cents, while gasoline prices are expected to remain stable.
“If these predictions for the upcoming week are confirmed, the average price of simple diesel will be set at 1.527 euros, and simple gasoline 95 will stay at 1.698 euros,” according to the ACP website.
Currently, simple diesel is priced at 1.542 euros per liter, while simple gasoline 95 costs 1.698 euros per liter, based on the latest average figures updated by the Directorate-General for Energy and Geology (DGEG) on the Fuel Prices Online website.
The ACP further states that “these predictions are made assuming the continuation of extraordinary fiscal reduction measures implemented by the government to mitigate price increases.”
“The measures in force include the reduction of the Petroleum Products Tax (ISP) and the offsetting of additional VAT revenue,” it is mentioned.

End of ISP discounts (and the prices?)
The Minister of Finance has assured that the Government is working on a solution for the end of discounts on the tax on petroleum and energy products (ISP) recommended by the European Commission, which would not increase fuel prices.
“We will seek price reduction moments to revert these discounts,” stated the Minister of State and Finance, Joaquim Miranda Sarmento, when presenting the State Budget proposal for 2026, in Lisbon.
The minister noted that this issue has been posed by the European Commission since 2023, being “the only remark” made by the institution in the evaluation of the Medium-Term Budgetary Program in October last year, and in a new letter received in June, urging the Government to end the ISP discounts.
The Minister of Economy and Territorial Cohesion, Manuel Castro Almeida, has already admitted “adjustments” in fuel prices.
How is oil performing in international markets?
The price of Brent crude oil for December delivery ended, on Thursday, in the London futures market down by 1.37%, at 61.06 dollars.
North Sea crude, a reference in Europe, closed the session at the International Exchange trading 85 cents below the 61.91 dollars it ended transactions with on Wednesday.
Brent continued its downward trend, with its price falling to its lowest since May, following the trade war initiated by Donald Trump.
This time, commercial concerns are once again prominent among investors amid heightened tension between the US and China, alongside a potential global recession scenario and excess oil supply in the market.
