New York Stock Exchange opens in the ‘green’

At 2:36 PM in Lisbon, the Dow Jones inched up 0.01% to 44,841.77 points, while the Nasdaq rose by 0.51% reaching 21,287.30 points.

Simultaneously, the S&P 500 advanced by 0.20% to 6,402.40 points.

Wall Street closed on Monday with mixed results.

The Dow Jones ended down 0.14% at 44,837.56 points, compared to the all-time high of 45,014.04 points recorded on December 4, 2024.

The Nasdaq, the index of high-tech listed companies, closed up 0.33% to 21,178.59 points, marking a new all-time high.

Apart from the final days of second-quarter earnings reports for Wall Street-listed companies, the U.S. Federal Reserve begins a new two-day meeting on interest rates today, facing unprecedented pressure from President Donald Trump on Fed Chair Jerome Powell to “do the right thing” and cut rates.

The Fed’s decision on interest rates will be known on Wednesday, and the Bank of Japan’s (BOJ) decision will follow on Thursday.
