Next week will have “rainy weather,” but “above-normal temperatures”

The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) released the weather forecast for the upcoming week, from December 8 to 14, for mainland Portugal. The institute predicts “rainy and relatively warm” weather in the coming days.

In the weekly bulletin, IPMA states, “The week from December 8 to 14 will be a week of rainy and relatively warm weather, with temperatures above the normal range for the season.”

Maximum temperatures are expected to range between 15°C and 18°C, while minimum temperatures will range from 9°C to 13°C in “various locations” across mainland Portugal, especially “near the coast.”

“The mainland territory will be under the influence of a warm and humid air mass, leading to frequent rainfall and reduced visibility, especially in mountainous regions,” indicates the IPMA.

However, there will be “episodes of frontal systems passing through” on December 9 and 10, which “will cause moderate to strong westerly winds in the highlands and along the western coast.”

There will also be “occurrences of heavy precipitation,” with the northwest region of Portugal experiencing “very high values.”

What to Expect During the Long Weekend?

For tomorrow, Saturday, “periods of rain” are expected, which could be “sometimes heavy in Minho and Douro Litoral.” There will also be a “slight rise in the minimum temperature.”

Maximum temperatures will vary between 11°C in Guarda and 19°C in Leiria, Santarém, Setúbal, Évora, Sagres, and Faro.

On Sunday, “generally very cloudy skies, with clear spells in the southern region, especially in the afternoon,” are expected, along with “periods of rain, more frequent in the northern and central regions” and a “small decrease in temperature, especially the minimum.”

The highest maximum temperature will be recorded in the district of Leiria (19°C) and the lowest in Guarda (11°C). In terms of minimum temperatures, the highest will occur in Porto and Aveiro (14°C), and the lowest again in Guarda (7°C).

On Monday, the public holiday, the forecast is for “generally very cloudy skies, with clear spells in the central and southern regions from the afternoon” and “periods of rain in the northern and central regions, generally weak and infrequent.”

Depression Davide Brings Maritime Turbulence to Portugal (Starting Today)

The Depression Davide will affect the western coast of mainland Portugal with strong maritime turbulence starting today, especially north of Cabo da Roca, and warnings have already been issued.

In a statement, IPMA indicates that Depression Davide will cause waves from the west/northwest up to 5.5 meters high until Sunday morning.

The maritime agitation will temporarily decrease during the day on Sunday and until mid-afternoon on Monday.

Additionally, persistent rain, sometimes heavy, is expected from late today until mid-afternoon on Saturday in Minho and Douro Litoral, and in the districts of Aveiro, Vila Real, and Viseu.
