The Queer Lisboa festival has announced part of the program for its 29th edition, scheduled from September 19 to 27. Among the films to be screened is ‘Tese sobre uma domesticação,’ directed by Argentine filmmaker Javier van de Couter. The film features trans writer Camila Sosa Villada and is inspired by her novel, which was published this year in Portugal.
This film will be part of the ‘Panorama’ section, which also includes the biopic ‘Homem com H’ by director Esmir Filho, focusing on Brazilian artist Ney Matogrosso. The film comes to this festival after being available on streaming platforms.
Other selections in this section include the Italian documentary ‘My Boyfriend el Fascista,’ in which director Matthias Lintner explores his relationship with his boyfriend, Sadiel Gonzalez, “a Cuban migrant in Italy and a supporter of far-right ideologies.” The intimate film ‘Peter Hujar’s Day’ by Ira Sachs, based on the book by Linda Rosenkrantz, will also be shown.
This year, in partnership with the Portuguese Cinematheque, the Queer International Film Festival will dedicate a retrospective to French filmmaker Lionel Soukaz, “an activist and a central, pioneering figure of the LGBTQIA+ movement in France,” who passed away in February at the age of 71.
Soukaz’s films “demonstrate an uncompromising commitment to autobiographical storytelling and the expression of desire, embodying his boundless quest for freedom, which led to the censorship of some of his works,” as stated by Queer Lisboa in a press release.
The Queer Lisboa will take place at the São Jorge cinema and the Portuguese Cinematheque.
