Night of FC Porto-Benfica The PSP’s advice for those going to the Classic

The Futebol Clube do Porto (FCP) and the Sport Lisboa e Benfica (SLB) are set to face off tomorrow at 9:15 p.m. at Estádio do Dragão in Porto. In anticipation of the event, the Polícia de Segurança Pública (PSP) has issued guidance for fans who plan to attend the match.

The PSP stated in a communication that “this sporting event is considered by the current legislation as a high-risk game.”

Accordingly, a policing strategy suited to the occasion will be deployed, incorporating various units from the Porto Metropolitan Command to “ensure public order and the necessary safety conditions for the match” and to “manage traffic on the roads and streets near the stadium.”

The PSP urges that visiting team supporters gather at the designated area by Parque dos STCP in Bonjóia at 6:30 p.m. to receive a police escort ensuring their safety. Fans are also advised to arrive at the stadium early.

“Considering the importance of the competition and the historical rivalry between the teams and their fans, there is a potential for public order disturbances, with possible conflicts between supporters, highlighting the significant animosity between rival fans,” the statement reads.

This classic match is part of the eighth round of the Liga Portugal for this sporting season.
