Ninth edition of ‘Tonight We Scream’ begins on October 17 in Lisbon

‘O Senhor Biedermann e Os incendiários’ (1958), by Max Frisch, ‘O Barrete de Guizos’ (1916) by Luigi Pirandello, ‘Vemo-nos ao Nascer do Dia’ (2017), by Zinnie Harris, and ‘Um Dia Sonhei com uma Cobra’ (2003), by Mariana Antão, are among five plays set for interpretative readings between October 17 and the end of November, as noted by the organizing company Cepa Torta.

The readings will take place in eight venues across Lisbon, as well as the Municipal Library of Faro and the Cultural Center of Lagos.

The libraries of Alcântara, Coruchéus, Marvila, and the Palácio Galveias, Bota space in Anjos, Casa do Comum, Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, and Fábrica Braço de Prata are the locations in the Portuguese capital where these texts will be read.

The ‘Esta noite grita-se’ cycle will also feature the debut reading of the finalist text from the 5th edition of the Nova Dramaturgia de Autoria Feminina Prize 2025. The winner will be announced Wednesday and will be presented for the first time on December 6, at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, with a repeat the following day.

This 5th edition of the award, which includes the publication of the winning text in book form, has three finalist texts: ‘Imigrantes’ by Ema Fonseca, ‘On board’ by Marta Prieto, and ‘Pedra’ by Sabrina Marthendal.

The 9th edition of ‘Esta noite grita-se’ will also feature reading workshops on November 1 and 2, at the Alcântara Library.

Tickets for the sessions are priced at five euros.

Promoted by the Cepa Torta company, ‘Esta noite grita-se’ is directed artistically by the company, Filipe Abreu and Miguel Maia, with production by Lara Santos.
