“No one wins the elections before election day”

Luís Montenegro, addressing a crowd in Bragança, appeared alongside Hernâni Dias, the lead candidate for the AD coalition—PSD/CDS—in this electoral district and his former Secretary of State. On Mother’s Day, he took the opportunity to speak directly to “the mothers of Bragança.”

Before a few hundred supporters, the Prime Minister emphasized the potential pitfalls of relying on favorable polls.

“Elections aren’t won before the actual election day, and no vote can be changed the day after May 18. That’s why I ask you to give your all. We must continue this work that values people,” he asserted.

Montenegro also made a direct appeal to elderly voters.

“This government’s efforts have not left pensioners and retirees behind,” he stressed, highlighting that over the past 11 months, his administration twice increased the Solidarity Supplement for the Elderly and fully covered the cost of medications.

“This is an initiative that focuses on youth, offering them hope so they don’t feel compelled to emigrate to find opportunities. It considers working individuals, reducing taxes, and increasing their take-home pay,” he stated.

The PSD President made a resolute promise: “From Bragança, I want to tell you that we will not leave anyone behind.”

“We uphold our commitments, aiming to keep young people in Portugal. We want all active workforce to earn more by month’s end to meet their expenses, and retirees to know they can rely on us. We are here to enhance your pensions,” he reaffirmed.

Montenegro, after walking through Bragança’s Feira das Cantarinha, made a special mention of Mother’s Day, offering a heartfelt tribute to “the mothers of Bragança.”

“Long live the mothers of Portugal and, particularly, the mothers of Bragança,” he declared.

In 2003, a group known as the “mothers of Bragança” emerged with the aim of expelling Brazilian prostitutes from this northeastern city of Portugal.
