After the removal of the vehicle, train service between the Alcantarilha and Silves stations has been restored, a source from Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP) stated.
The alert for a collision between a train and a light vehicle at the level crossing near Poço Barreto in the municipality of Silves, Faro district, was issued at 19:31. The accident resulted in two injuries.
The two injured individuals were transported to Portimão Hospital, according to a source from the Algarve Sub-regional Command.
Seventeen operatives were dispatched to the scene, supported by seven vehicles, including rescue teams and police forces, as reported on the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection (ANEPC) website.
