North, center, and Algarve at maximum or high risk of rural fire

North coastal areas, including the municipalities of Esposende (Braga), Póvoa de Varzim (Porto), and Murtosa, Aveiro, and Ílhavo (all in the district of Aveiro), are at moderate risk of rural fires.

In the Algarve, only the municipalities of Olhão, Faro, Albufeira, and Lagoa face moderate risk, whereas the remaining areas are forecasted by the IPMA to experience elevated to maximum risk.

The IPMA predicts that the rural fire risk will remain high in the coming days in the same northern and central inland regions and in the Algarve.

This risk, assessed by the IPMA, is classified into five levels ranging from reduced to maximum. The calculation is based on air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed, and precipitation in the last 24 hours.

For today, the IPMA forecasts hot weather with generally clear skies, with wind occasionally strong along the coastal strip north of Cabo Raso and in highlands.

Except for the Algarve, mainland Portugal is under a yellow alert. In the archipelagos, most of Madeira Island is also under a yellow warning.

Setúbal is expected to be the hottest city on the mainland, with a forecast of 40 degrees maximum temperature, followed by Lisbon and Santarém with 39 degrees.
