This Monday, June 30, marks the deadline for property owners to pay the Municipal Property Tax (IMI) in a single installment if the amount is less than 100 euros, or the first installment if it exceeds that amount.
The deadline, usually at the end of May, was extended due to technical constraints associated with a blackout.
What Are the Payment Deadlines?
According to the law, the Municipal Property Tax (IMI) is paid in a single instance during May when the amount is less than 100 euros, divided into two installments paid in May and November when it ranges between 100 and 500 euros. Exceeding 500 euros, it is split into three equal installments to be paid in May, August, and November.
However, for several years, property owners have had the option of making the full tax payment with the May settlement (which this year is in June).

The latest official figures released indicate that in 2023, 556,011 taxpayers made an advance payment of IMI.
This Year, Taxpayers Had More Time to Pay
IMI is usually paid in May, but this year the deadline was pushed to June due to the energy blackout that occurred in April, causing IT difficulties.
In May, the Government extended the IMI payment deadline to the end of June and also extended the Model 22 submission date, as announced by the Ministry of Finance.
The extension was due to access issues to the Finance Portal since the energy blackout, prompting the Tax Authority (AT) to inform the Government of the “existence of technical constraints” that affected the “issuance of IMI billing notices for the year 2024”.
“Considering that these constraints prevented the timely issuance of a broad range of IMI billing notices, which is still ongoing, the Government decided to extend the payment deadline for the first installment of IMI or, if applicable, the single installment of this tax until the end of June for all taxpayers,” a note to the press stated.
