In the leaders’ conference summary distributed today, each parliamentary group will have six minutes to speak, while single-party representatives can speak for three minutes. This year marks the 50th anniversary of November 25.
Last year, parliament commemorated 49 years since November 25, 1975, with a formal session similar to the 50th anniversary ceremony of April 25.
At that time, each parliamentary group was allotted five and a half minutes for speeches, and the sole PAN deputy had two minutes, slightly less than will be allowed this year.
This is only the second occasion that the Assembly of the Republic is organizing a formal session to mark this military operation. As annual tradition with April 25, speeches will be delivered by the parliament president, José Pedro Aguiar-Branco, and the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.
The events of November 25, which saw opposing military forces confront one another and led to the victory of the moderate wing of the Armed Forces Movement (MFA), marked the end of the so-called Ongoing Revolutionary Period (PREC).
