
“Of the total number of unemployed individuals who are married or in a common-law partnership, 9,046 (7.9%) have records indicating that their spouse is also registered as unemployed with the Employment Service, amounting to 4,523 unemployed couples in October 2025, representing a 7.0% decrease compared to the same period the previous year,” states the report from the Institute of Employment and Vocational Training (IEFP).
In a sequential comparison, the number of couples with both spouses unemployed fell by 4.9%.
For several years, couples in this situation of dual unemployment have been entitled to a 10% increase in the amount of unemployment benefit, provided they have dependents.
The IEFP also reported that the number of unemployed individuals registered at employment centers decreased by 4.7% in October year-on-year and fell by 1.6% compared to September, following two consecutive chain increases.
