A report from the Institute of Employment and Vocational Training (IEFP) reveals that, among married or cohabiting unemployed individuals, 9,512 (8.1%) have their spouse also registered as unemployed with the employment service, amounting to 4,756 unemployed couples as of September 2025. This figure represents a 3.6% decrease compared to the same period last year.
In a month-to-month comparison, the number of couples where both partners are unemployed decreased by 2.7%.
For several years, couples facing double unemployment have been entitled to a 10% increase in unemployment benefits when they have dependents.
The IEFP also reported a 2.6% year-on-year decrease in the number of unemployed individuals registered at employment centers in September, although there was a 0.3% increase compared to August, marking the second consecutive month of increase.
