
In the North, 145 more companies were established than in 2024, indicating an increase of approximately 1.9% in this measure. This growth was primarily due to the real estate sector, which rose by 37% in the region.
The real estate sector experienced the highest growth across the country, with 560 more establishments, marking an increase of around 24% compared to the same period the previous year.
Conversely, over half of the industry sectors saw a decline in new company formations, notably the transport sector, which saw 580 fewer establishments, a drop of 26% compared to 2024.
On the matter of insolvency, these decreased by 8% since the beginning of the year, with approximately 844 companies initiating the process.
Over the past 12 months, from June 2024 to the end of May 2025, 13,948 companies closed in Portugal, 1,762 fewer than in the previous 12 months, representing a decline of 11%.
