In June, the ports of the Azores saw 61,908 passengers arriving from inter-island trips, marking an increase of 1,820 passengers (3%) compared to the same month in the previous year.
From January to May, the ports in the Azores welcomed 222,498 travelers, a rise of 5,633 passengers (2.6%) compared to the same period last year.
During the low season, Atlânticoline, the company responsible for maritime passenger connections in the Azores, operates trips only among the islands of the Triangle (Pico, Faial, and São Jorge) and between Flores and Corvo.
Starting in June, the service extends to the other two islands in the Central group: Terceira and Graciosa.
The island of Pico, which maintains several daily voyages to Faial throughout the year, recorded the highest passenger movement in June, with 27,582 disembarkations, representing a 2.5% increase from the previous year.
The island of Faial saw 25,656 passengers, reflecting a 5% climb compared to June of the previous year.
São Jorge Island, also linked to Pico and Faial year-round, experienced a 4.8% growth, totaling 7,048 disembarkations.
In the Western group, maritime routes operate all year between Flores and Corvo.
In Flores, the number of disembarkations dropped by 8.7% in June, falling from 412 to 376, while Corvo experienced a decrease of 27.7%, from 433 to 313 passengers.
The most significant percentage reduction was observed on the island of Graciosa, which tallied 287 passengers, down 35.4% from June of the previous year.
Island of Terceira also recorded fewer passengers than the previous year in the first month of the 2025 operation, with a total of 646, marking a decline of 13.1%.
Examining the accumulated figures for the first half of 2025, the trend is similar, with the Triangle islands showing a year-on-year increase and the Western group experiencing a decline.
São Jorge posted the highest increase during this period (6.1%), followed by Faial (3.1%) and Pico (2.1%).
In Flores, there was a 12.7% reduction in passenger numbers, and Corvo saw a decrease of 15.9%.
Since 2020, the seasonal operation by Atlânticoline, which connected all the islands of the archipelago (except Corvo) with larger ships from May to September, has been suspended.
During the high season months (June to September), maritime routes are now limited to the Central group islands (Terceira, Graciosa, São Jorge, Pico, and Faial) and between Flores and Corvo (Western group).
