
“In August 2025, 320,860 passengers arrived at airports in the Azores, marking a positive variation of 4.3% compared to the same month of the previous year,” according to the SREA report on air passenger movement, reviewed today.
All islands in the archipelago registered an annual increase in the number of landings this month.
Graciosa saw the most significant growth (12.3%), followed by Corvo (9.7%), Pico (9.3%), São Jorge (6%), and Faial (5%).
The islands with the smallest annual increases were São Miguel (4.7%), Flores (4.3%), Terceira (1.5%), and Santa Maria (0.8%).
São Miguel, the largest island in the archipelago, saw 182,348 passengers arrive, accounting for 56.8% of all passengers landing at Azorean airports in August, followed by Terceira with 64,627 passengers (20.1%), Faial with 22,437 (7%), and Pico with 18,777 (5.9%).
Of the more than 320,000 passengers arriving this month, nearly half (47.5%) came from inter-island flights (152,087).
From other parts of the national territory (mainland and Madeira), 114,508 passengers arrived (35.7%), with 54,265 passengers (16.9%) arriving from abroad.
In all three categories, there was an increase in arriving passengers, with inter-island flights showing the largest annual rise (5.8%), followed by territorial flights (3.9%) and international flights (1.3%).
Regarding the number of passengers departing, August saw 331,488 passengers, up 4.5% from the same month in 2024.
The number of passengers departing on international flights (58,493) showed a decrease of 0.7% compared to the same period last year.
In inter-island flights, 152,089 passengers departed (up 5.5%), while territorial flights had 120,906 passengers (up 5.8%).
