
The total number of married or cohabiting unemployed individuals, where both partners are registered as unemployed at employment services, was recorded at 9,442 (8.2%), comprising 4,721 unemployed couples in June 2025, showing a 1.1% decrease compared to the same period in the previous year, according to the Instituto do Emprego e Formação Profissional (IEFP) report released today.
Comparatively, the number of couples where both partners are unemployed rose by 0.3%, ending a four-month decline trend that began in February.
For several years, couples experiencing dual unemployment have been eligible for a 10% increase in unemployment benefits when they have dependents.
The IEFP also reported that the number of registered unemployed in mainland employment services stood at 283,761 at the end of June, reflecting a year-on-year decline of 3.4% and a 2.3% decrease compared to the previous month.
