The number of unemployed people registered at job centers fell 3.6 percent year-on-year in May to 285,855, “the lowest ever” for that month and 3.2 percent lower than in April, the government announced today.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Labor, Solidarity and Social Security, “in May 285,855 people were enrolled in the IEFP [Institute of Employment and Professional Training], which represents a decrease of 3.2% (-9,567 people) compared to the previous month and -3.6% (-10,539 people) compared to the level observed in May 2022.
The number of registered unemployed young people fell 5.8% (-1,861 people) compared to the previous month, “reaching the second lowest value ever in the month of May,” but was 1.2% higher (+359 people) than in May 2022.
As for long-term unemployment (116,729 people), it fell by 2.5% (-2,871 people) and dropped 21.8% in comparison with May 2022 (-31,784 people).
