Nurses in the Azores warn of “clearly insufficient” conditions

The conditions of the mobile units operated by Arrisca in the Azores are compromising both the safety of healthcare professionals and the quality and dignity of care provided to the public, according to Pedro Soares, head of the Regional Section of the Order of Nurses in the Autonomous Region of the Azores.

Pedro Soares highlighted the obsolescence of equipment and logistical conditions that fail to provide an appropriate environment for fulfilling their mission securely and autonomously. He also noted a concerning number of nurses experiencing exhaustion and burnout, with some expressing a desire to leave the institution.

This situation is attributed to overwork, a lack of resources, and the absence of minimum institutional support, particularly in terms of security, according to Soares.

Additionally, it has been revealed that some nurses are being assigned duties not aligned with their professional profiles, based on directives from the association itself.

“This practice is unacceptable and constitutes a violation of the legal framework governing nursing practice. The Order of Nurses reminds all that every professional must operate within the limits of their technical and ethical competencies, always ensuring safety and quality in care,” noted Soares.
